Helsinki Conference 2005

The aim of the event was to address the challenge of making ambitious targets of the global community a reality. The Helsinki Conference built on and assessed the work of the first phase of the Helsinki Process on Globalisation and Democracy, a multi-stakeholder dialogue initiated by the Finnish and Tanzanian governments.

The initiative stemmed from the belief that inclusive and equitable globalisation should be promoted through closer dialogue and new partnerships, embracing not only governments but also civil society and private sector actors. At the Conference, proposals of the first phase of the Helsinki Process on improving global governance were presented in order to mobilise support and commitment for their advancement. The ultimate aim of the Conference was to lead to concrete actions towards more inclusive and equitable globalisation.
