Rethinking Bretton Woods Project

Where? International
Description

The Rethinking Bretton Woods project promotes reforms within the international financial institutions (IFIs) to democratize economic policy-making and achieve sustainable development.
The RBW Project began in 1994 under the leadership of Jo Marie Griesgraber. Initially, the project explored how the missions of the World Bank and IMF had changed fifty years after they were founded. Later, the project established links with economic and legal professional organizations around the world, which were also seeking reform of the international financial institutions. From 1998-2000, the project played a lead role in the Jubilee 2000 campaign for debt forgiveness among the world's most impoverished countries.
The current areas of focus of the RBW project are: trade and finance linkages (the "policy coherence" agenda of international financial and trade institutions), the sovereign debt arbitration and Global economic governance follow-up process to the Financing for Development Conference.
