The Culture of Peace is a set of values, attitudes and modes of behavior that reflect respect for life, human beings and human dignity. It gives top priority to human rights, rejection of any form of violence, and adherence to the principles of freedom, justice, solidarity and tolerance, as well as understanding among nations, groups and people.
Abolishing violence and its causes requires much more than action by governments. To meet this objective, everyone must participate by putting human rights into practice on a daily basis. Only then will a profound change in attitudes take place within families, communities, regions and countries.
