Dag Hammarskjöld Foundation

The Dag Hammarskjöld Foundation was established in 1962 in memory of the second Secretary-General of the United Nations. It is based in Uppsala, Sweden. Its purpose is to organise seminars, conferences, work-shops and consultations on development issues and to publish and disseminate the results. The Foundation is an autonomous institution, which is not grant-making but carries out its own work programmes.
At different times in its forty-year history the Foundation has worked closely with UN institutions and also dealt with issues concerning the Organisation itself. Thus, during the 1990s the Hammarskjöld Foundation, in cooperation with the Ford Foundation, devoted a large part of its seminar and publications programme to the reform of the United Nations.
